Emissions integrity: green hydrogen’s big dilemma
High costs and tightening regulations are raising fresh questions about the scalability of green hydrogen.
Prices still range between $3.74 and $11.70/kg, and while BloombergNEF (BNEF) forecasts a decline to $1.60–$5.09/kg by 2050, that remains well above the earlier $1–$2/kg ambitions set for 2030 – and higher than current grey hydrogen costs.
With high prices set to linger, rules decided by key markets could only compound cost concerns and heighten offtake hesitation just as producers seek greater predictability.
