Take 5: An interview with… Vaitea Cowan, co-founder of Enapter

Vaitea, you’ve just got back from COP26. What was it like to be on the ground in Glasgow? How much did hydrogen feature? Can you share your key takeaways…

While it was a unique experience to be there with so much going on like negotiations, plenaries, and side events, we went there with our usual focus: to establish partnerships and get green hydrogen to the market quickly. COP26 is not our usual stage, and we did not want to get lost in the long and sometimes fruitless talks.

Hydrogen was present everywhere in the Blue Zone: in almost every speech at the World Leaders Summit Breakthrough session, in side events at the country pavilions where they presented their hydrogen strategies, and at the Action Hub with a dedicated green hydrogen show featuring those who have made commitments to big projects. Hydrogen has finally made it to the stage at COP! On top of this, COP26 was a great opportunity to meet some of our partners who use our electrolysers for integrated hydrogen hybrid batteries and hydrogen car refuelling.

The big takeaway for me was the need to rapidly combine action and collaboration. We, entrepreneurs, together with other members of the private sector, need to move fast to have any chance of meeting the 1.5˙C target. And the task is so massive that it will only be possible to reach it if we work together.
