The Eagles have landed: Hydrogen meets sport in latest green initiative for the Philadelphia Eagles

What started with a blue recycling bin under each employee’s desk in 2003 has grown into a company-wide sustainability programme for the Philadelphia Eagles that works year-round to reduce the team’s environmental footprint.

That’s the winning statement from the club’s 2020 annual report, as it reflects on a multi-year curriculum and action plan that incorporates green energy production, recycling, composting, energy efficiency and reforestation, among other ventures.

This is clearly an American football team like no other. A member of the National Football League’s (NFL) National Football Conference (NFC) East Division, the Philadelphia Eagles are known for their intense rivalry with the New York Giants and as 2018 Super Bowl winners. With a rich sporting pedigree since the franchise was established in 1933 as a replacement for the bankrupt Frankford Yellow Jackets, the team is also known for being consistently at the forefront of American football.

Another distinction of the Eagles is its renowned green-themed kit or ‘uniform’ which they wear with pride – and in recent years that green attribute has visibly extended way beyond shirts or branding. The Philadelphia Eagles are ‘committed to serving as proud environmental stewards for the community’ and have carved out a reputation in the sports world for these impressive efforts.
