£500m UK hydrogen infrastructure funding aims to connect production and industry


The UK government has confirmed more than £500m ($677m) in funding for hydrogen storage and transportation infrastructure to connect production with end-users.

This marks the first major UK funding scheme specifically aimed at hydrogen infrastructure, following long-running calls from industry stakeholders for parity with production support.

“By building hydrogen networks, we are securing homegrown energy that will power British industry for generations to come,” said Energy Secretary Ed Miliband.

While detailed plans for how the £500m will be spent remain unclear, the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) said the funding would create the “UK’s first regional hydrogen and transport storage network.”
