50km hydrogen pipeline connecting Evonik’s Marl site to core network completed


Work has been completed on a new hydrogen pipeline that connects northern North Rhine-Westphalia to Evonik’s Marl Chemical Park and the Gelsenkirchen refinery.

Part of the Get H2 initiative, a 50km green hydrogen pipeline is now ready to begin operations in Germany, enabling green hydrogen to flow directly to Marl, where it can be used in chemical production and energy supply.

As part of the project, 41km of a former natural gas pipeline was converted to carry hydrogen, while a new 3km section was constructed across Evonik’s Marl site, linking it to a further 10km pipeline to the Gelsenkirchen-Scholven refinery.
