AFC Energy will commercially launch its hydrogen-powered electric vehicle charger this December, the energy technology firm today said.
The charger generates clean electricity through a hydrogen fuel cell, which allows for electric vehicle charging without increasing the demand on the grid. It also enables the supply of electric vehicle recharging in off-grid locations.
AFC Energy is working with Rolec Services to bring the 72 kilowatts per hour charger to the market before the end of the year.
The UK company plans to target multi-user sites such as fleet operators, car parks, shopping centres and other off grid applications.
The system can be readily scaled up to 288 kilowatts per hour through an increase in the integrated energy storage capacity of the off-grid charger with the help of its partner MSP Technologies.
