Air Products warns against weakening EU hydrogen rules as Neom nears completion


Now is not the time to weaken European green hydrogen rules and targets, Air Products President, Europe and Africa, Ivo Bols, has told the World Hydrogen Summit in Rotterdam.

In a keynote address at the event, Bols told attendees long-term certainty and predictability were critical for investments, and outlined the need to preserve current frameworks.

With the 2025 deadline approaching for EU member states to transpose renewable energy and hydrogen targets into national laws, the Air Products executive said now was not the time to “weaken” commitments or reopen debates around the criteria for green hydrogen production.

In recent months, there have been growing calls from industry lobbyists and project developers to reduce strict renewable energy requirements for green hydrogen producers to ease cost barriers and accelerate developments.
