Analysis: US hydrogen gets 45V reprieve, but the clock is brutal


The Congressional passage of President Donald Trump’s ‘One Bill, Beautiful Bill’ is a bittersweet moment for the US hydrogen industry.

While many are relieved that the 45V clean hydrogen production tax credit is retained in some valuable form, its significantly shortened eligibility period will almost certainly see once promising developments waved off.

Developers now have until 31 December 2027 to begin construction in order to qualify for the up to $3/kg incentive, five years less than originally legislated in President Biden’s 2022 Inflation Reduction Act, which catalysed so much momentum.
