ArcelorMittal and HAW Hamburg research hydrogen-based steel production

ArcelorMittal and the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW Hamburg) are jointly researching hydrogen-based steel production as part of a new project.

WiSaNo (wind steel from northern Germany) will investigate producing hydrogen through offshore wind farms for use in the steel production process.

In a first preliminary investigation, different variants will be considered in order to produce one million tonnes of steel per year.

For each variant, an estimation of the required wind farm size, the investment costs and the production costs for steel will be determined.
