Asahi Kasei announces hydrogen production pilot project in Japan

Japanese multinational Asahi Kasei has said it has started the construction of an alkaline water electrolysis pilot test plant for hydrogen production at its Kawasaki Works in Kanagawa, Japan.

H2 View understands the company is installing several Aqualizer™ electrolyser modules to be tested against fluctuating electrical power input generated from renewable energy sources, with operation set to commence in early 2024.

Asahi Kasei has said the planned system will feature one to four 0.8MW electrolyser modules to facilitate the verification and improvement of their design, operation methods, and control technology.
