Bolivia launches first hydrogen projects across three key regions


The Bolivian Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Energy has launched the country’s first hydrogen production initiatives, with three pilot projects planned for Oruro, Tarija, and Santa Cruz.

Led by Energy Minister Alejandro Gallardo, the projects aim to harness each region’s renewable strengths, including Oruro’s utility-scale solar capacity, Tarija’s combined hydro and solar potential, and Santa Cruz’s abundant biomass resources.

Gallardo noted the hydrogen industry’s potential for technological innovation, job creation and economic advancement. It is estimated that around 1,537 jobs could be created in the South American nation by 2030 and 28,014 by 2050.
