Chevron, Caterpillar ink hydrogen deal to decarbonise industrial sectors and transportation

Hydrogen for locomotives, marine vessels and stationary power applications is the key focus of a new partnership between Chevron USA and Caterpillar.

The duo on Wednesday (September 8) inked a collaboration agreement as part of an effort to decarbonise heavy-duty transportation and industrial sectors.

Immediately, the duo want to start work on hydrogen rail applications in various US locations, with this aspect of the partnership being led by Progress Rail, a Caterpillar company.

On the plans, Jeff Gustavson, President of Chevron New Energies, said, “Through Chevron New Energies, Chevron is pursuing opportunities to create demand for hydrogen – and the technologies needed for its use – for the heavy-duty transportation and industrial sectors, in which carbon emissions are harder to abate.
