‘China is simply doing it’: Hydrogen Council boss challenges Europe to deliver
The West must wake up and act on hydrogen or risk surrendering the future to China.
That was the stark warning delivered by Hydrogen Council CEO Ivana Jemelkova in an interview with H2 View at the World Hydrogen Summit in Rotterdam, following a visit to China that left her “very impressed” by the country’s pace and scale of deployment.
“While we are making plans and creating very complex rules here in Europe, China is simply doing it,” she told H2 View. “It’s time for the policymakers to wake up and move forward.”
Her comments come amid an increasing realisation that Western hydrogen ambitions are being outpaced by China’s more coordinated, state-backed strategy – one focused not only on decarbonisation, but on clean energy dominance.
