Concentric to develop e-coolant pumps for a new hydrogen-powered bus

Concentric AB has revealed a new development contract today (June 7) that will see the company supply electric coolant pumps for a hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) being developed by a global bus OEM.

The OEM’s new FCEV flagship bus application will use the e-pumps for cooling for the hydrogen fuel cell on board the bus.

FCEV buses have become more popular across the world with the hydrogen powered buses providing zero carbon emissions compared to its diesel competitors.

These are therefore helping to decarbonise heavily polluted densely populated cities.

The electric coolant pump has various key benefits including a robust design that includes a wet rotor to help eliminate the possibility of a dynamic seal, as well as long service life that is aided by liquid cooled electronics and a DC brushless design giving service life of over 50,000 hours.

Integrated intelligent diagnostics is also present in the e-cooling pump and utilises sensors for temperature and pressure whilst the pump is also compact and features low noise characteristics.

David Woolley, President and CEO of Concentric, said, “This new agreement is another milestone in the development of Concentric’s e-pumps, as we strive for technology and innovation = sustainability.

“We already supply e-pumps to many global OEMs for their hybrid and battery electric vehicles, and this important contract ensures we continue to support our customer’s needs as they design the zero emission vehicles of the future.”
