Consortium to develop hydrogen value chain in Kyushu

A new partnership is looking to develop a complete hydrogen value chain in northern Kyushu, Japan.

ITOCHU Corporation, Nippon Coke & Engineering Company and Compagnie Maritime Belge (CMB) have joined forces on the project that will create both supply and demand of the clean fuel.

Nippon Coke and CMB’s hydrogen engine will play a key role in the plans. It is hoped the engine will quickly build a supply chain based on the local production and local consumption model to push forward a carbon-free society.

As part of the project, the companies will determine the demand for hydrogen in the region to help work toward the launch of a hydrogen supply chain in 2023.
