Construction begins of wave-powered hydrogen production facility in Croatia

Construction has begun on a pilot hydrogen production facility in Croatia that will use sea wave energy to generate green hydrogen.

The Zero Emission Corridor (ZEC H2) project, located at the Žigljen port on the island of Pag, is being undertaken by the local authority in the island town of Novalja. Following a site analysis of Novalja, Žigljen, and Tovarnele ports, local authorities began construction of a pilot plant at Žigljen.

According to reports, the facility will use domestic technology for the generation of electricity from sea waves to power water electrolysis. However, reports have not revealed where the electrolyser will be supplied from.

The construction of the pilot facility has been financed through the EU’s Interregional Innovation Investments Instrument. Additional grants were secured from EU funds too.
