E.ON commissions hydrogen-ready CHP plant with MM Neuss in Germany


E.ON and MM Neuss have commissioned Europe’s first fully automated large-scale combined heat and power (CHP) plant that has been designed to transition to hydrogen in the future.

Located in Neuss, Germany, the plant is powered by a combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) in CHP mode, which uses natural gas. Although the system is already capable of operating with up to a 10% hydrogen blend.

In the longer term, the plant can convert to 100% hydrogen. However, E.ON and its partner have not yet disclosed a timeline for the plant’s full conversion to hydrogen.
