Eneos Holdings sidelines hydrogen in favour of near-term low-carbon fuels


Eneos Holdings will prioritise other low-carbon alternatives over hydrogen investments across the next three years.

In the Japanese oil refiner’s Fourth Medium-Term Plan FY2025-2027, the company announced it will invest in Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF), while hydrogen appears to be exploratory for Eneos.

Hydrogen has been grouped under Eneos’ Decarbonisation Business category, which the firm describes as “requiring careful resource selection and flexibility based on multiple societal scenarios,” whereas LNG and SAF are listed as near-term priority investment targets.
