Etihad Airways, bp, Masdar, ADNOC, Tadweer to explore SAF production from waste and hydrogen in UAE

The production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from solid waste and renewable hydrogen is set to be explored by Etihad Airways, bp, Masdar, ADNOC, and Tadweer (Abu Dhabi Waste Management Company).

Under an agreement, the companies will conduct a joint feasibility study on exploring the production of SAF, renewable diesel, naphtha, and other products using municipal solid waste and renewable hydrogen, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The companies are set to evaluate the feasible and commercial viability of the project, and if the conclusions are positive, the partners have said they will target working towards developing the region’s ‘first’ commercial-scale production capacity for the renewable fuels in Abu Dhabi.
