EU to launch legal action over RED III delays: reports


The European Commission is ready to take legal action against EU member states that have not yet transposed the Renewable Energy Directive (RED III) into law, according to reports.

RED III sets EU targets for renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBOs), requiring 42% of hydrogen used in industry to come from renewable sources by 2030 and 60% by 2035, with a 1% RFNBO share in transport.

Speaking during a Hydrogen Europe-hosted webinar, Lukasz Kolinski, Director for Green Transition and Energy System Integration at the Commission’s Directorate-General for Energy, confirmed that infringement proceedings will be launched against Member States that fail to transpose RED III into national law by May 21, 2025.
