European Parliament calls for flexible revision of RFNBO rules


The European Parliament has called on the European Commission to revise the Delegated Act on renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBO) for hydrogen production.

The legislative and democratic arm of the EU has suggested the current framework may be limiting the scale-up of renewable hydrogen production and keeping costs high for consumers and industry.

It’s instead calling for a science-based but flexible revision of the RFNBO delegated act and urges the Commission to use its upcoming implementation study to assess the economic impact on producers and users, the feasibility of meeting current criteria, and options to simplify or phase in the rules during the early stages of market development.
