Exeter Airport hosts UK’s first hydrogen-powered aircraft turnaround

Exeter Airport has conducted the first live demonstration in the UK of a hydrogen-powered aircraft turnaround.

A TUI Boeing 737 passenger aircraft was prepared for its next flight using ground equipment powered by green hydrogen instead of diesel. A hydrogen-powered baggage tug, pushback tug and ground power unit (GPU) were used in the demonstration.

Exeter Airport and the project partners have said it’s the first demonstration of this type in the UK, and possibly the world, in which multiple pieces of green hydrogen-powered equipment have been used simultaneously for a commercial air transport operational aircraft.
