Fossil fuel firms and major industrial players currently dominate hydrogen lobbying efforts in the EU, according to a new study.
The report, published in the International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, revealed that oil and gas companies, energy-intensive industries, and technology providers have secured disproportionate access to EU decision-makers, while civil society organisations and renewable energy groups remain largely absent.
The findings highlight a potential mismatch between the EU’s climate goals, which are largely underpinned by a heavy green hydrogen focus and the interests shaping hydrogen policy, which have increasingly been calling for a more “technology-neutral” approach.
