Funds approved for liquid hydrogen aviation project


The European Commission has approved the Cryostar project under the Horizon Europe–Clean Aviation joint undertaking programme.

The project aims to develop certification methodology for liquid hydrogen cryogenic tanks intended for commercial aircraft.

Grants totalling €5m are being made available, including €726,875 to engineering company Mare Group, one of the main industrial partners in the project alongside five universities, research centres and hi-tech companies.

The objective is to integrate tanks within the rear fuselage of CS-25 aircraft to ensure containment, impact resistance, and compliance with future regulatory requirements.
