Further Enova funding for Norwegian hydrogen projects

Enova has announced further investments in Norwegian production, with NOK 150m ($15.2m) destined for Glomfjord Hydrogen.

Owned by Greenstat, Meløy commune, Troms Kraft, as well as Nel, the Glomfjord Hydrogen plans seek to establish a 20MW plant to produce renewable hydrogen for customers in the maritime sector.

The funding comes as part of five maritime hydrogen hubs along the Norwegian coastline, following on the NOK 148m ($14.8m) grant to the Hydrogen Hub Adger from Enova.

H2 View understand, all five of the hydrogen hubs, located in Glomfjord, Kristiansand, Rørvik, Hitra, and Florø, set to be supported by Enova will receive up to NOK 669m ($67.7m).

Owning 23% of the Glomfjord project shares, Nel are set to deploy its electrolyser technology at the development, which is set to match its largest hydrogen project to date at Iberdrola’s hydrogen plant in Puertollano, Spain.

Jon André Løkke, CEO of Nel, said, “The 20 MW hydrogen plant in Glomfjord will, if realised, be the same size as Europe’s currently largest hydrogen plant.

“Glomfjord is a place with a long and proud industrial history in Norway, and until the 90s Glomfjord Industrial Park was the largest hydrogen production site in the world. It is therefore very gratifying that Glomfjord once again seems to become a new green hydrogen hub in Norway.”
