German and New Zealand airports partner on hydrogen developments

Although 18,500km apart, the airports of Hamburg, Germany, and Christchurch, New Zealand, have signed a partnership to work on developing the use of green hydrogen in aviation.

With both airports already having taken steps to dramatically reduce their carbon dioxide emissions, H2 View understands, under the new partnership Hamburg Airport and Christchurch Airport will jointly identify technical and operational solutions to decarbonise further.

According to the partners, they want to actively prepare and promote the future use of green hydrogen as an emission-free energy carrier in aviation, with the use of hydrogen in ground vehicles, hydrogen-based aircrafts, and hydrogen infrastructure.
