German Hydrogen Council chair nominated next economy and energy minister

The chair of Germany’s National Hydrogen Council has been nominated as the country’s next economy and energy minister.

Former lawmaker and Chair of E.ON subsidiary Westenergie Katherina Reiche is set to become the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) in the new German government, which has promised a pragmatic approach to hydrogen.

Since 2020, she has served as Chair of the National Hydrogen Council within the BMWK to assist policymakers in developing and implementing hydrogen strategies.

Reiche was previously a member of the Bundestag from 1998 to 2015, and was a federal cabinet member for seven years.
