Government funding gives hydrogen village the green light in UK

Cadent announced today (May 10) it has received funding from the UK Government to explore converting 2,000 homes in Whitby, Ellesmere Port, UK, to hydrogen from natural gas.

The trial will gather evidence to aid in the government’s decision on whether to promote hydrogen, using existing gas networks, and support the decarbonisation of heating buildings.

Heating currently contributes 74% of building emissions in the UK, and approximately 23% of all UK emissions. The way homes are heated in the future will be a significant factor for the UK meeting its net-zero target.
