Hiringa Energy and Hyzon Motors partner on hydrogen truck project

Green hydrogen supplier Hiringa Energy and hydrogen fuel cell vehicle company Hyzon Motors have signed an agreement for the supply of hydrogen fuel cell-powered heavy goods vehicles (HGV) to be deployed in New Zealand.

Supporting Hiringa and its partners strategy to roll out over 1,500 fuel cell electric vehicles by 2026, the HGVs will be tailored to meet the requirements of New Zealand’s heavy freight and road transport sector.

The trucks will come in a variety of right-hand drive configurations, with a gross combined mass of over 50 tonnes and suitable for New Zealand operators with driving distances up to 500km. The vehicles will enter service from the start of 2021.

Dan Kahn, Chief Technology Officer at Hiringa, said, “This is an exciting milestone for Hiringa Energy and our partners. It comes on the back on over three years of detailed planning and analysis working together with heavy fleet operators, government and leading technology vendors such as Hyzon Motors.”
