Hitachi Energy trials hydrogen generator to power Stena Line ferry in Sweden

Hitachi Energy has used its hydrogen generator to supply electricity to Stena Line’s ferry in Sweden as part of a two-week trial.

The HyFlex generator was deployed at the Port of Gothenburg, at the Majnabbe terminal, to showcase a hydrogen-powered generator as an alternative to diesel applications in port environments.

The unit was not only used to power a ship with hydrogen energy, but it was also connected directly to the local electricity grid. This allowed the team to test how well the HyFlex could support the grid as a backup or supplementary power source.
