Hydrogen bus delivers industry leaders to Westminster in £6.5bn HySpeed push


More than 20 UK energy-intensive businesses arrived at Westminster today in a hydrogen-powered bus to drive forward the HySpeed campaign to over 40 MPs and peers.

Arriving on a Wrightbus Hydroliner, the campaign marked a significant escalation in the consortium’s efforts to secure government backing for a £6.5bn ($8.55bn) plan to build 1GW of hydrogen capacity across the UK by 2030.

Representatives from Wrightbus, Centrica, Heidelberg, ITM Power, JCB, and National Gas ramped up the pressure on the government to approve the plans, which could create over 24,000 jobs.

The event, organised as a “direct response to the government’s call to make the UK a clean energy superpower,” highlighted the issues with British Steel, blackouts in Iberia and foundation industry job losses as reasons behind the need to step up the UK’s energy capabilities.
