Hydrogen buses now running in Wuppertal

Over the weekend a fleet of ten hydrogen-powered buses started regular service in the city of Wuppertal in Germany.

The 12-meter-buses, from the Belgium manufacturer Van Hool, offer space for 75 passengers and are equipped with an 85 kilowatt and a lithium-titanate oxide battery.

For the deployment of the vehicles, the European Union, the Federal Government, the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Rhine-Ruhr Transport Association contributed €6.5m.

Next year the hydrogen bus fleet will be expanded to 20 vehicles.
