Hydrogen imports will support Europe’s energy sovereignty, the World Hydrogen Summit hears

Allard Castelein, CEO of the Rotterdam Port Authority told the World Hydrogen Summit that Europe’s energy sovereignty could be achieved by supporting green hydrogen imports.

Speaking at the event in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, today (May 10), Castelein told attendees that Europe will need hydrogen imports to meet its energy goals.

“A year ago, I told you that Europe’s [energy] sovereignty was going to be premised on resiliency based on imports and local production,” Castelein said. “It’s the resiliency that is created by importing from various sources because local production will never be sufficient to cater for the needs of northwest Europe.”
