Hydrogen-powered mobile retail hoped to stimulate repopulation of Fukushima, Japan

Retail in Japan is getting a hydrogen revamp, with Toyota deploying a hydrogen-powered fuel cell vehicle to be used as a mobile retail business, to stimulate the repopulation of the earthquake affected Fukushima.

Announced today (May 31), Toyota signed a basic agreement with retailer, AEON TOHOKU to offer a mobile retail service in the municipalities of Futaba Town and Namie Town.

It is hoped the rolling hydrogen business will help stimulate the areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, which devastated the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, resulting in the evacuation of residents.
