Hydrogen remains strategic for Bosch despite industry lag, says Chairman

Bosch’s Chairman has stressed that hydrogen will remain important to the German tech major, despite slow industry progress and changes to the company’s product line.

Dr. Stefan Hartung told the firm’s annual press conference that hydrogen internal combustion engines (ICE) and its newly launched electrolyser stacks will deliver strategic growth.

“Hydrogen will remain important for us,” Hartung told reporters, “even if progress in this area is slower than expected.”

In 2023, Bosch started mass producing heavy-duty truck PEM fuel cell modules and announced a target of €5bn ($5.65bn) in hydrogen technology sales by 2030. It remains unclear whether that target is still in place.
