India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has introduced a new certification framework to verify green hydrogen production across the country.
Similar to the EU’s renewable fuel of non-biological origin (RFNBO) certification, the Green Hydrogen Certification Scheme (GHCI) has been tailored to India’s domestic regulatory landscape.
The GHCI features a multi-tiered certification system and sets a lifecycle emissions cap of 2kg CO2e per kilogram of hydrogen. In comparison, the EU’s RFNBO criteria allow up to 3.38kg CO2e per kilogram, making India’s threshold more stringent.
