ITM signs FEED contract for Uniper’s 120MW UK green hydrogen plant
ITM Power will undertake the engineering for Uniper’s 120MW UK green hydrogen plant, which will use the electrolyser manufacturer’s Poseidon modules.
The Humber H2ub project, located at the German energy firm’s Killingholme site, will use six 20MW ITM electrolysers. The project developer plans to supply hydrogen to Phillips 66’s Humber refinery.
The initiative remains subject to final investment decision (FID) and is targeted to be operational in 2029.
H2 View understands that this is the first time that ITM has stated that its Poseidon systems will be used in a specific project. The standardised skid-mounted electrolyser units, based on their 2MW stacks, are designed for larger-scale projects.
“The Humber project represents exactly the kind of scale, ambition and strategic alignment the green hydrogen sector needs right now,” stated ITM CEO Dennis Schulz.
“Signing the FEED contract is not just another milestone – it is a signal that industrial decarbonisation in the UK is moving from concept to reality.”
Uniper’s project was also shortlisted as part of the UK’s Hydrogen Allocation Round 2 (HAR2) earlier this year. The company has qualified for UK government funding in the form of 15-year contracts for difference.
Currently, the HAR2 contracts would require funded projects to be operational between 31 March 2026 and 31 March 2029. However, the HAR process has faced significant delays, with the initial HAR1 scheme still yet to finalise contracts for all projects.
