LAC Green hydrogen alliance to be established to accelerate green hydrogen adoption in Latin America

A new alliance has been revealed today (Nov 4) that aims to develop the green hydrogen ecosystem in Latin America to bolster the worldwide market.

Formed at COP26, the LAC Green Hydrogen Action alliance will aim to globally position both Latin America and the Caribbean as centrals hubs for green hydrogen with the region’s abundance of renewable energy and hydrogen production potential.

The signing of this agreement, set for tomorrow (Nov 5), includes several key challenges and developments that will be see the members commit to overcoming.

This includes driving national policies by identifying near-term opportunities as well as supporting the deployment of green hydrogen applications following the guiding principles of a just transition.

As well as this, the alliance will accelerate the adoption of an internationally recognised green hydrogen certification system to ensure compliance with ambitious climate commitments, differentiating it from other, more emission-intensive types of hydrogen.

Financing will be another major aim of the alliance as it looks to support early financing schemes and reduce investment risk.

The final factor will be social licensing with the group aiming to promote the development of a methodology for obtaining a social license to operate green hydrogen projects.
