Liebherr Mining, Engie looking at hydrogen to decarbonise mining sector

Swiss-based Liebherr Mining and Engie are looking into renewable hydrogen, and hydrogen derived fuels, in a bid to develop an integrated well-to-wheel solution for the mining industry as the sector looks to decarbonise.

Liebherr said it investigating future energy ecosystems to power its mobile and heavy-duty mining equipment.

Already offering nearly a full range of electric excavators and trolley equipped trucks, Liebherr has a clear roadmap to achieve low carbon solutions in 2022 for its entire truck and excavator product line, along with fossil fuel free solutions for most applications by 2030.
