The North West Hydrogen Alliance (NWHA) has urged the UK Government to mandate hydrogen-ready boilers from 2026 which it says could save consumers up to £36bn ($44bn) in replacement costs.
Modelled against the National Grid’s Future Energy Scenarios, the NWHA says its analysis shows that delaying such mandate until 2030 could cost an additional £8.6bn ($10.6bn) and has called for urgent action to provide certainty for the industry and drive investment.
Having opened for consultation on the mandating of hydrogen-ready boilers from 2026 in December (2022), the UK Government has been looking into hydrogen as a means to decarbonise household heating.
