Just over a year ago, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) announced its goal to launch a fuel cell-powered moon rover into space by 2029.
Since the project launch, fuel cells have rapidly become one of the top mobility solutions, with introduction of fuel cell cars, trains and plans for planes.
At the time, in order to make the goal a reality, JAXA and Toyota signed a three-year joint research agreement to focus on the manufacturing, testing and evaluating of various prototypes.
Featuring a pressurised cabin and powered by fuel cell electric vehicle technology, the JAXA/Toyota rover is thought to be light years ahead of “Moon buggies” used in NASA’s Apollo missions.
