Oxford University to lead £9.5m hydrogen aviation research project


A group of UK universities led by Oxford University is to explore hydrogen’s potential in advancing zero carbon aviation.

The £9.5m project is backed by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).

Leading academics from the university, together with Imperial College London, Loughborough University, and King’s College London convened at the Oxford Thermofluids Institute this month to mark its official launch.

The kick-off meeting outlined plans to tackle critical scientific challenges associated with using cryogenic liquid hydrogen (LH2) as fuel for gas turbines.
