Petronas, Eneos to explore clean hydrogen supply chain

The development of a clean hydrogen supply chain between Malaysia and Japan is being explored by Petronas and Eneos.

The Malaysian state-run gas giant revealed today (Sep 10) it has inked a deal with Tokyo-based Eneos to jointly study hydrogen production and its transportation in in methylcyclohexane (MCH) form, where hydrogen is converted from its original gaseous state into a liquid form to enable large volume deliveries.

The two firms will also look at producing low-carbon hydrogen from Petronas’ petrochemical facilities and in the future, green hydrogen produced by renewable energy.

“With emerging clean energy sources like hydrogen, innovation and collaboration with partners in technological development are key, as they contribute towards achieving cost competitiveness and scalability for wider use across businesses and industries,” Adnan Zainal Abidin, Petronas Gas + New Energy Executive Vice-President and CEO, said.
