Plug Power Inc. has partnered with German speciality vehicle manufacturer MULAG to bring a new generation of hydrogen fuel cell-powered electric cargo tow tractors to Hamburg Airport in Germany.
The partnership follows the success of a previously built fuel cell-powered vehicle by the companies which ran alongside the airport’s existing ground support equipment fleet for a period of time, passing its evaluation and service testing.
Plug Power will now provide Hamburg Airport with 60 additional fuel cell units to power its baggage-towing fleet as well as permanent hydrogen stations.
“We’re excited to be delivering a new generation of alternative energy solutions for Hamburg Airport, which for nearly 20 years has been a leader in leveraging alternative drive systems for its baggage towing fleet,” said Andy Marsh, Plug Power CEO.
“The transportation sector is a leading contributor to climate emissions, and we’re honoured to be working with an airport dedicated to greening ground support equipment operations.”
Alongside this partnership, Plug Power is working with other European airport operators to install similar fuel cell electric vehicles.
