PowerCell Sweden has established a subsidiary in China to “capture the opportunities” presented by Chinese efforts in fuel cell technology.
PowerCell Fuel Cell (Shanghai) will be located in Shanghai where the fuel cell stacks and systems developer and producer has begun recruitment of local employees.
Over the last couple of years, China has introduced big subsidies for vehicles that have been electrified using fuel cells. The country has also made major efforts within the field of fuel cell technology.
“China is at the forefront of the developments within the fuel cell technology and it is essential for PowerCell to be there and to capture the opportunities presented by the Chinese efforts,” Per Wassén, CEO of PowerCell said.
Yibo Zhao has been appointed as Manager of PowerCell Fuel Cell (Shanghai). Zhao has been with PowerCell since 2017 and previously worked for Frontpac and the Volvo Group.
PowerCell said its fuel cell stack PowerCell S2 is ideally suited for the Chinese market where it has generated sales with several customers.
“PowerCell S2 is the only fuel cell stack with PEM (proton exchange membrane) technology in the market that can tolerate high levels of contamination in hydrogen and can be run on both reformate hydrogen and residual hydrogen,” PowerCell explained. “The Chinese industry produces vast amounts of industrial residual hydrogen.”
In May, H2 View reported that PowerCell opened its first sales office in China to better meet the “strong increase” in fuel cell technology in the Chinese market.
PowerCell also has sales offices in Japan, South Korea and South Africa, as well as German subsidiary.
