Estonian-based PowerUP Energy Technologies has officially unveiled its first-ever hydrogen fuel cell generator today (July 13).
The new fuel cell generator, dubbed UP400, is targeting the recreational industry by producing 400W of portable clean energy.
Despite being portable, the hydrogen generator is said to not only be durable but also silent with the only emission being water vapor.
This makes it a very clean option when compared to fossil-fuel alternatives.
The UP400 is ideal for recreational use across industries such as a sailing and yachting, campervans or RVs and off-grid homes.
The generator utilises hydrogen fuel cells that work in parallel with a battery module with the fuel cells acting as the primary energy source when operational.
Hydrogen, which is used to fuel the generator, is provided by external cylinders.
PowerUP’s best-in-class portable fuel cell generators raise the demand for hydrogen refuelling stations and hydrogen in general and can be purchased for €6,500 ($7,702) with a minimum lifetime of 5000 working hours.
Dr. Ivar Kruusenberg, Founder and CEO of PowerUP Energy Technologies said, “Since the inception of our company, we have worked day and night to develop not just an innovative product, but also a product that helps our planet win the race against climate change.
“Our product range is 95% recyclable, and we believe we have the potential to replace heavy and noisy diesel generators with silent, compact, and smell-free generators, which will be convenient to transport and carry around.
“With this launch, we also aim to contribute towards enhancing sustainability by providing emission-free products which will help reduce carbon footprints across industries.”
Dr. Kruusenberg added, “We are committed to taking energy generation to the next level. Whether you own a yacht, a campervan or need a power backup for your off-grid home, we have a powerful solution for everyone.
“Verily these smart generators can be combined with batteries, solar panels, or even wind turbines to create a smart grid system.”
PowerUP Energy Technologies is leading Estonian innovation with its new hydrogen cabinet
Dr. Ivar Kruusenberg, the Founder and CEO of PowerUP Energy Technologies, has big ambitions for hydrogen cabinets. “We’re planning to open more cabinets not only in Estonia, but in Finland, Sweden, France and maybe in England. This is one of the first steps: to open this [Estonia’s] first, see how it works and then get the next cabinets opened as well, hopefully this year.”
The start-up company said the new hydrogen cabinet, situated at Alexela’s refuelling station at the Kakumäe harbour in Tallinn, Estonia, is a first-of-its-kind, and is targeted towards small application users including sailing boats, yachts and campervans.
