Researchers develop “reverse fuel cell”

A team from the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering have developed a ‘reverse fuel cell’ technology.

Traditionally, fuel cells turn chemical into electricity, however, the new technology does the reverse by harnessing electricity to make valuable chemicals from waste carbon dioxide.

“For decades, talented researchers have been developing systems that convert electricity into hydrogen and back again,” said Ted Sargent, University Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department.
