Researchers to investigate powering New South Wales infrastructure with renewables including hydrogen

An Australian research consortium led by UNSW Sydney will investigate the potential to grow a new industry that will use cheap excess renewable energy to make fuel, chemicals and feedstocks to power a range of New South Wales (NSW) infrastructure.

Scientia Professor Rose Amal from the School of Chemical Engineering will lead a team to undertake a roadmap exercise NSW Power-to-X (P2X) Industry Feasibility Study, which will assess and develop opportunities for decarbonisation and growing local manufacturing capabilities.

The work will be carried out with the support from the NSW Office of the Chief Scientist & Engineer (OCSE).

P2X refers to energy conversion technologies that can be used to store power surpluses from renewable energy sources as chemical energy.
