Ricardo teams up with EMEC to support Isle of Wight hydrogen production

Global engineering, environmental and strategic consultancy Ricardo and the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) are supporting the delivery of a new solar powered hydrogen production facility on the Isle of Wight, UK.

Wight Community Energy will test the viability of developing renewable energy solutions to support the local community and reduce environmental impact.

The project will look at using existing solar capacity to produce hydrogen as an alternative to high-carbon fossil fuels. Ricardo’s experts will assess the scale of hydrogen production and use, as well as the commercial model for the facility.

Project partners at EMEC Hydrogen, the organisation’s green hydrogen R&D arm, will assess the safety and regulatory aspects of the project, focusing on the use of hydrogen in the maritime sector.
