The Scottish Government’s new Minister for Energy, Gillian Martin MSP, toured the ACHES (Aberdeen City Hydrogen Energy Storage) refuelling station at Cove this morning as part of a visit to meet with key stakeholders across the hydrogen and carbon capture, usage and storage (CCUS) industries in the North East of the country.
During the tour, the Minister and her team heard how the facility, which was opened to the public in 2017, was developed to produce hydrogen through water electrolysis, compression, storage and cooling to enable fast fuelling for vehicles, and were given a demonstration of how the site operates.
As well as hearing about the refuelling facility, information was provided on projects being developed and delivered across Aberdeen, including the Hydrogen Hub, a joint venture between the council and bp to develop Scotland’s first hydrogen production and distribution facility, as the city positions itself as a leader in bringing hydrogen technology to market.
